What is Inbox Placement?

Test whether your emails land in the inbox, spam folder, or nowhere at all.

Inbox Placement tells you where your emails actually land — inbox, spam folder, or missing. Unlike validation (which checks whether an address exists), inbox placement checks whether your sending infrastructure and domain reputation are good enough to reach the inbox.

How it works

  1. Create a placement test and enter the email address you send from
  2. Send a test email from that address to each of our seed mailboxes
  3. We check each seed inbox and record where your email landed
  4. See your inbox placement rate broken down by provider (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud)

What a good placement rate looks like

RateWhat it means
80–100%Excellent — strong sender reputation
50–79%Moderate — some providers filtering
Below 50%Poor — sender reputation issues, likely hitting spam

What affects inbox placement

  • Your sending domain's SPF, DMARC, and DKIM configuration
  • Your domain and IP reputation with each provider
  • The content of your test email
  • Whether you've recently sent high volumes of email

Inbox Placement vs. Email Validation

Validation checks the recipient's email address. Inbox placement checks your sender reputation. Both matter — you can have a perfect list of valid addresses and still land in spam if your sending domain has poor reputation.
